Wealth Growth and Fee Impact Calculator

This calculator will help you see two things that most people never look at:

  1. How your money can grow based on what you’re already investing

  2. How ongoing fees (like advisor fees or fund fees) can slow down your progress
even when you’re doing everything “right”

Wealth Growth and Fee Impact Calculator

See how your investments can grow over time, what kind of income they could support, and how fees might quietly eat into your future wealth.
Start with your numbers
1. Your current situation
Add up all your investment and retirement accounts (401k, IRA, brokerage, etc).
2. Your future contributions
Total you invest each month across all accounts.
Any extra amount you add once per year, like a bonus or profit share.
3. Growth assumptions
Over the last 100 years, the US stock market has averaged around a 10 percent annual return. This calculator uses 7 percent as a conservative starting point, but you can adjust this number to match your expectations.
How many years until you want work to be optional.
4. Fees and investing style
This usually means someone who charges a percentage of the money they manage for you. If you select Yes, this calculator assumes a 1 percent annual advisor fee on assets under management.
Actively managed funds have managers picking investments. They usually cost more than simple index funds. If you select Yes, this calculator assumes an extra 0.75 percent annual fund fee, common in many actively managed funds.

What these results mean
This calculator gives you a sneak peek into your financial future. It shows how strong your money can grow with consistent investing and how fees might quietly slow that growth down.
Once you enter your info on the left and click Show my results, this tool will show:
  • How much your investments could grow by the time you want work to be optional
  • A simple estimate of the yearly and monthly income your portfolio could support
  • If you pay advisor or fund fees, how much they might shrink your future balance and income, including the percent of your portfolio lost to fees
Think of this as a sneak peek at your future, not a final verdict. You can always adjust your numbers and see what changes.
Why fees matter:
Even small fees, taken year after year, can add up to a big difference in your future wealth. This is not about skipping coffee. It is about keeping more of the growth your money is already working to create.

How to read your results

Seeing your numbers laid out can feel exciting, surprising, or even a little overwhelming. Here’s how to make sense of what you just saw:

  • Your projected investments at retirement: This shows what your money can grow into with consistent investing. It’s not a prediction. It’s a direction.
  • Your estimated income: This is the amount your investments could safely pay you each month without running out. Your portfolio becomes your income.
  • Today’s dollars (if selected): This helps you understand what your future income might feel like in today’s buying power.
  • Fee impact: If you selected advisor or fund fees, this shows how much quiet fee drag can reduce your future balance and income.
  • If your numbers feel “too low” or “too high”: You didn’t do anything wrong. Your results depend on your timeline, your contributions, and your growth rate. This is the starting point, not the end.
